Dog Memorial Planters with Photo and Real Plant | Living Tribute | Shiner Photo
A living memorial for a dog who used to follow you out to the garden.
Some memorials sit still. A planter doesn't. The leaves grow. Sometimes it flowers. The pot is custom-printed with your dog's photo and name, and the plant alongside it keeps changing the way they did, slower, more themselves over time.
Handmade in our family workshop in the United States. Over 50,000 customers and 9,300+ 5-star reviews. Production in 3 to 5 days. Free U.S. shipping.
The Custom Dog Memorial Planter
A personalized planter pot, custom-printed with your dog's photo, name, and (optional) dates. Includes a real succulent or hardy low-care plant inside. $34. See the planter.
Who chooses a memorial planter
For the dog parent who wants something to tend
Watering once a week becomes the ritual. The plant gives grief somewhere to go. For people whose grief feels stuck, the act of caring for something living often helps more than caring for something still.
For the friend sending a sympathy gift
The memorial planter is one of the most-given pet sympathy gifts in our shop. We ship directly to a grieving friend with a handwritten note, no price visible on the packaging. The recipient sets it on a windowsill or kitchen counter, and it becomes an instant moment of beauty when they open it.
For the apartment renter or anyone with limited space
A planter is small, portable, doesn't need a wall, doesn't need a shelf. Fits any windowsill or small ledge. The memorial moves with you if you move.
What gets personalized
- Your dog's photo (we crop and color-correct every photo before printing)
- Your dog's name
- Optional dates (e.g., "2009 to 2024") or a short phrase ("Forever loved," "If love could have saved you," "Until we meet again")
- A real succulent or low-care plant, chosen for being almost impossible to kill
- A care card with simple plant care instructions
How a planter compares to other dog memorial forms
We make three kinds of dog memorials. Each one suits a different kind of person.
If you want one quiet piece on a shelf: the Photo Memorial Block
A solid baltic birchwood photo block with your dog's photo, name, and dates. Sits flat on a shelf or mantel. No frame, no glass, no fuss. Starting at $24. See the photo block.
If you want something living that grows: the Memorial Planter
This page. A pot with your dog's photo and a real plant inside. $34. See the planter.
If you want many moments at once: the Mini Magnetic Memory Set
A set of small magnetic photo blocks (4, 6, or 12 pieces, from $36) printed with your favorite photos. The magnetic backing snaps them onto each other or onto a wall mount. See all dog memorial options.
Frequently Asked Questions About Memorial Planters
What kind of plant comes with my dog memorial planter?
Usually a hardy succulent, chosen for being almost impossible to kill. We pick based on what's in season and what ships best in your region. If you have a preference, mention it in the order notes and we'll do our best to match it.
How long does the plant live?
With basic care (bright indirect light and occasional watering), most succulents we ship live for years. If yours doesn't make it, email us and we'll send a replacement plant.
Can I send a memorial planter as a sympathy gift?
Yes. About half of our memorial planters ship directly to grieving friends as pet sympathy gifts. We include a handwritten note and there's no price visible on the packaging. The recipient often sets it on a kitchen windowsill, where their dog used to wait by the back door, and it becomes the new ritual.
What if the plant arrives damaged?
Plants are packaged carefully and ship live. If anything arrives damaged or wilted beyond saving, email us and we'll replace it.
Do I have to be a plant person to keep it alive?
No. The succulents we ship are chosen specifically because they thrive on neglect. Bright indirect light and water every 1 to 2 weeks is enough. The full care card comes with each planter.
Can I include my dog's dates on the planter?
Yes. Just add the dates in the personalization field at checkout, or email them to us after. You can also add a short phrase or quote (about a sentence, around 50 characters).
How big is the planter?
Our memorial planter pot is sized for a small succulent or houseplant. Small enough to fit on a windowsill, mantel, or desk, large enough to be a real presence in the room. The plant itself grows with care.
Is this a good outdoor planter or indoor only?
It's designed for indoor use. The printed pot is durable but the print is best protected from direct rain and prolonged sun exposure. A sunny window, kitchen counter, or covered porch works perfectly.
